Brainfuse HelpNow: An NYPL Database Highlight

by Nilda Sanchez-Rodriguez on 2022-07-13T14:15:37-04:00 | 0 Comments

Whether you are stuck on homework assignments, preparing for final exams, or need 1-on-1 tutoring, Brainfuse HelpNow - available through the New York Public Library - is the resource for you!

Why do I love Brainfuse HelpNow?

In the midst of finalizing my third research article in the fall of 2020, I discovered the Writing Lab in Brainfuse; a wonderful and highly interactive writing resource with real-time expert writers. Many people like myself are apprehensive about writing or exchanging writing ideas, concerns and/or successes with others. This resource allowed me to anonymously share my writing with their expert writers, without the pressures of facing judgment or worries of them being overly critical. With little to no expectations, I submitted my draft to a writing tutor, and received detailed feedback within 24 hours.

Through a response form, I received an analysis and recommendations about specific parts of my paper from the writing expert. The feedback provided additional comments in brackets and an essential organization guide, including paper development, organization, formatting, and style. Additionally, a summary of grammar concerns, usage, mechanics, and citation formatting noted in the in-text comments section helped me improve the writing flow and overall structure. The revisions were positive and productive, as I objectively reviewed suggestions versus recommendation. In seven days, I resubmitted revisions three times; each was reviewed by different experts, one of which happened to be a retired librarian.
