Information Literacy Learning Outcomes
The guiding principles of information literacy can be found in the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
At the end of library sessions for FIQWS, ENG 110, ENG 210, and other introductory classes, students will be able to:
- Select appropriate search tools to match their information needs
- Determine an information source’s appropriateness for the information need
- Design and refine needs and search strategies as necessary, based on search results
- Develop search terms and keywords as appropriate to the topic or research question
- Find diverse perspectives on a topic
- Evaluate source material
- Articulate author’s source of expertise or credibility, whether academic, cultural, or something else
- Differentiate between the content and platform of the source and articulate the effect on credibility
- Distinguish how information sources are disseminated and how this may affect the use of the information source
- Assess other factors in determining credibility and relevance
