Audiotapes of interviews conducted mainly between 1970 and 1974 with African-American actors, actresses and artists as well as with a few African-American historians, sociologists, educators and political scientists. A numbers of the interviews were conducted by James V. Hatch or Camille Billops but other interviewers across the country were employed. Collection includes audiotapes of 221 interviews with typed abstracts for 68. Also included are 12 abstracts without audiotapes.

Ravi Shankar collection at CCNY

Ravi Shankar was hired by the CCNY Music department as a visiting professor in fall 1967. He taught two courses on Indian music in conjunction with ethnomusicologist Professor Elise Barnett.  All lectures and campus concerts were recorded and are accessible in the CCNY Archives & Special Collections. Digital copies of all recordings and course documents are now accessible to all CUNY library patrons through the Artstor Digital Library database.

Sweet Basil Records

The Sweet Basil records are a collection of rare LP jazz recordings originally collected by Horst Liepolt, Mel and Phyllis Litoff while running the Sweet Basil jazz club in lower Manhattan from 1981-1992. The collection consists of many of the internationally touring artists who recorded and held residencies at the club.
