CCNY Libraries Gets New Interim Chief Librarian

As of December 2nd, 2021, CCNY Libraries welcomed Professor Lon Mendelsohn as Interim Chief Librarian.

Professor Mendelsohn came to CCNY Libraries in 1993 as Chief of Public Services.  Since then, he has served in several other capacities, including Chief of the Science and Engineering Library, Chief of Technical Services, and Head of Collection Development, making him well versed in supervisory, user services, collection development, and budgetary matters. Prof. Mendelsohn holds a Master of Science in Biological Chemistry and a Master of Arts in Library Science, both from the University of Michigan. Prior to coming to City College, he was a librarian at the University of Toledo and at Wayne State University, where he also taught courses in science and technology reference and chemical information sources.  His research interests include the history and development of medieval culinary practices, especially in the Islamic world. Prof. Mendelsohn was promoted to the rank of full Professor in 2005.  We are grateful he has agreed to take on the role of Interim during the transition to the appointment of a permanent Chief Librarian.

Prof. Mendelsohn will take over from Professor Daisy Domínguez who has adeptly held the role of Interim Chief Librarian since the Fall 2020 semester and throughout the pandemic. CCNY Provost Dr. Tony Liss thanked her for this service by writing, "Prof. Domínguez brought an inspired creativity to fostering access as well as to developing and expanding resources. She has been a powerful voice for the Library and for us all, with a keen understanding of its vital role in our community.  We wish her well as she returns to her faculty role."
