Depository Libraries make up the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) which is part of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO). Under the FDLP participaring libraries receive free federal materials. Depository Libraries accept responsibility for providing these materials to the public at no charge.
Currently there are two types of Depository Libraries: selective (partial collections) and regional (receive all titles offered). There are 49 regional libraries and 1175 selectives. Both types provide free public access to a wide varitey of federal government information in both print and electronic formats. All Depository Libraries are indicated by this symbol, and must allow public access to its depository collection:
Catalog of Government Publications (CGP)
The CGP is the finding tool for federal publications that includes descriptive records for historical and current publications and provides direct links to those that are available online. Users can search by authoring agency, title, subject, and general key word, or click on "Advanced Search" for more options.
govinfo is a service of the United States Government Publishing Office (GPO), which is a Federal agency in the legislative branch. govinfo provides free public access to official publications from all three branches of the Federal Government.
Publications included in the Basic Collection are vital sources of information that support the public's right to know about the workings and essential activities of the Federal Government. Every depository library is required to have the titles in the Basic Collection accessible for immediate use. How this is accomplished at the City College of New York is that in addition to linking to the Federal Digital System & the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications we also provide access to titles in the Basic Collection in OneSearch.
