How to Access the Reading Room
The Michael Sorkin Reading Room supports research, academic engagement, and community access while safeguarding rare and valuable materials. To ensure these resources are preserved and managed effectively, the following guidelines apply:
- Hours (Fall 2024): The room is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors must sign in at the circulation desk before entering.
- Appointments: Researchers requiring access outside regular hours may schedule an appointment by emailing archlibrary@ccny.cuny.edu.
- Class visits: Faculty must submit requests for class sessions or lectures at least two weeks in advance via email. All reservations require advance approval from the librarian. Send requests to archlibrary@ccny.cuny.edu.
- No Unapproved Access: All use requires librarian notification and formal approval as outlined in these guidelines. No exceptions will be made. The School of Architecture or any other department cannot provide independent access to the room.
- Booking Frequency: Use of the room is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Advanced booking is strongly recommended. Requests exceeding standard booking limits require special approval.
- Maximum Occupancy: To maintain a quiet and manageable environment, group sizes are limited to 12 people.
- Temporary Closures: Regular hours may be suspended due to unplanned staff shortages. Patrons should check the library’s website or on-site notices for updates on room availability.
- Visitor Policy: All users must adhere to Visitor Guidelines detailed below to protect the integrity of the materials. Faculty are responsible for ensuring their students comply with these guidelines during room use.
