Dear CCNY Libraries community,

I hope that the new year and upcoming spring semester finds you well rested, in good health, and hopeful about our future. Please read on to learn about our fall 2020 activities and recently added resources as well as what to look out for this spring 2021.

This fall, we set up streaming film database trials to respond to faculty requests for remote teaching resources. As a result of their input, we will be subscribing to two streaming film databases; please subscribe to our blog to learn more. We currently have trial access to psychology database trials through August 2021. Along with our newly adopted software system came improved access to articles; be sure to download the Nomad browser extension to make your searching more seamless.

Despite a remote semester, librarians have been determined to make connections with the campus community by participating in or running virtual events such as a virtual book club; the Lunch and Learn series; and the Community Reads! Project, culminating in the 2020 Convocation with featured speaker author Elizabeth Wilkerson.

We continue to inform you about CCNY and other remote resources, including the Architecture Library’s 19th and 20th century postcard collection, which includes historical photographs of the campus and nearby buildings; the recently digitized Hatch-Billops Oral History Collection which highlights African American luminaries; an ORCA student’s recent work on the Teach with Music and Film database; LitCovid, a hub for COVID-related literature; and remote NYPL resources. You can continue to avail yourselves of all of these digitized collections and projects during this time of physical distancing.

We also highlight talented staffers Ebe De Leon, Emily Pagano, Tina Law-Walls, and Taida Sainvil and hope that you enjoy getting to know them better!

Some of us have returned to campus on a limited basis, but most of the Libraries continue to work remotely to support your studies, research and teaching. CCNY Library Chat reference service returned on January 27, 2021. Librarians are available remotely Monday - Thursday from 10am to 8pm, Friday from 10am to 6pm, and Saturday 10am to 2pm by chat or email at reference@ccny.cuny.edu to support students, staff, and faculty with their research. You can also submit a question anytime via this form. For circulation-related questions, including book fines, renewals, and book returns, please continue to send your questions to circdesk@ccny.cuny.edu.  Please reach out to us; we are here to help!

Interim Associate Dean and Chief Librarian
