Staff Spotlight: Ebe De Leon

Ebe Image Ebe De Leon is the Administrator in the Chief Librarian's Office and over the past 20 years has served with great distinction in that position for three Chief Librarians to date. She is hard working, intelligent, understated, effective, and a problem solver.

Her work ethic is as strong as her firm (very) handshake. The trademark handshake derives from a book she read long ago that said “if you want to leave a good impression, you should give a strong handshake.” She makes a big impression regardless because her work ethic and attention to detail and patience is so strong that it strikes you straight away. So is her commitment to public education, art, students, library employees, and the Chief Librarian.

This dedication derives from a few sources; her religious faith which advises doing your best at everything; her belief in addressing issues straight away; her tendency towards perfectionism and her determination to serve the students of City College as the Chief Librarian’s essential administrator.

Ebe was brought to New York City as an infant along with her older brother when her parents moved from the Dominican Republic.  She received an AAS in Business Administration, from Bronx CC, a BFA in Art from City College and BS in Business Administration from Lehman. Ebe was hired originally by the Career Office of City College, worked there for 2 years, as the Office Manager. Then she moved to the library's Circulation Office before the move to Administrative Assistant for the Chief Librarian.  Her work related goal is to make sure that everyone coming to her office finds a friendly and helpful person, willing to figure out the solution to any problem, to the best of her abilities.Paintings by Ebe De Leon

Beyond her great work in the library, Ebe's greatest accomplishment in life was to have been blessed with the experience of raising a daughter. “I wanted to raise my daughter to become a person that loves family, learning and working hard, and who I can have conversations with like a friend.” Another accomplishment in life is that, as an adult, she initiated conversations with her father and looked after him as his health deteriorated. Putting her family first, she made his last days the best they could be.

Ebe relaxes by gathering with family and her fiancé, by reading, going on long walks, cooking her favorite meals and practicing her famous hand shake. She also like learning new skills. She is a keen painter and her art work has been included in many CCNY Women Makes Art exhibitions since 2001.

Ebe’s secret is: “Enjoy everything you do, and it will transform into a relaxing activity. That includes work.” That in essence explains her work ethic, unflappable demeanor, and can-do outlook as she serves the current Chief Librarian, Daisy Dominguez, the library community and the wider student body of City College.
