We are pleased to announce that City College Libraries now offer the Academic Video Online (AVON) database as part of a CUNY-sponsored effort to answer the demand across campuses for video content. Academic Video Online includes thousands of titles including instructional videos, documentaries, and feature films covering all disciplines. Videos are unlimited access so that students, faculty, and staff are free to watch on their own or in the classroom. Video sources include (among others)  PBS, BBC, and Sony Pictures Classics. A big highlight is the addition of the documentary collection Film Platform.

Picture a Scientist film posterFilm Platform is a collection of over 400 documentaries curated for an academic audience that can be accessed in Academic Video Online. Film Platform offers titles such as the Oscar-nominated Ruth Bader Ginsburg documentary RBG and the women-in-science documentary Picture a Scientist, a special selection at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. Miruna Ghinia-Tegla (@MirunaGTegla),  a Postdoctoral Research Associate at CCNY's Emerson Lab who is also president of the CUNY Postdoctoral Association and Vice President of CCNY's Women in Science, recommends Picture a Scientist to the entire City College community. "This is one of the most educational and impactful documentaries regarding the position of women and other underrepresented groups in academia. Therefore, extremely important for our students, faculty and staff to watch.

You can find Academic Video Online on the CCNY Libraries A-Z Database list or link directly at https://library.ccny.cuny.edu/AVON.

The platform is so robust with content and features that parent company ProQuest has a dedicated Research Guide to help users navigate the platform. Check it out at https://proquest.libguides.com/academicvideoonline .
