A good place to start for demographic and health data is USA.gov which is the U.S. government's clearinghouse for data and its agency databases. Most states have their own version, NY.gov is exceptional for New York State data and information.
The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan research organization that conducts research on social issues. Pew conducts numerous polls and delivers reports on its findings.
