WESTCHESTER MUNICIPAL PLANNING FEDERATION  Westchester Municipal Planning Federation SCHOLARSHIP

Westchester Municipal Planning Federation (WMPF) offers a $2000 scholarship to a student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate planning program (or a closely-related program such as architecture, landscape architecture, public administration, public policy or geography) and who plans to continue his/her studies in the summer and/or fall of 2020.

Strong preference will be given to those students who have lived, worked or studied in Westchester County, New York, or have some other relevant connection to the County.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION Landscape Architecture Foundation 

LAF is pleased to offer a total of $97,000 through 13 different scholarships and fellowships. These awards support new generations of landscape architects by rewarding superior student performance, supporting access and diversity, and assisting students with unmet financial need.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION ASLA-NY Designing in the Public Realm Scholarship

$5K

The award is open to currently-enrolled undergraduate or master's students studying landscape architecture at Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board (LAAB) accredited programs in the United States. To be eligible, the applicant’s university must be within the ASLA-NY Chapter boundary* or the applicant must have graduated from a high school within the ASLA-NY Chapter boundary. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have a minimum “B” grade point average (2.5-3.5).

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION Omlsted Scholars Program 

Named for Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture, the LAF Olmsted Scholars Program with its $25,000 graduate and $15,000 undergraduate prize is the premier leadership recognition program for landscape architecture students.

The LAF Olmsted Scholars Program recognizes outstanding student leadership. Each university may nominate one student from each of its LAAB or LAAC-accredited landscape architecture programs. (Students do not apply directly.) Eligible students are current master's students or undergraduates in their fourth or fifth year, who have made a commitment to the landscape architecture discipline.

MOA ARCH Kiyoshi Murata Scholarship Award Named in honor of founding Principal Kiyoshi Murata, this $3,000 merit based private scholarship and paid summer internship (plus travel and living expense reimbursement) was established to recognize and reward entering fourth or fifth year and graduate level students in an accredited architectural program. EDRA Nana Kirk Travel Student Scholarship A maximum of ten scholarships will be awarded in the form of a waived student EDRA51 registration fee for students traveling to the conference that demonstrate financial need and are passionate about the EDRA mission. Priority will be given to student members presenting at the conference. Applicants should note that an active EDRA membership at the time of the application is a prerequisite for being considered for the Nana Kirk Travel Student Scholarship.  February 15, 2020 / WINTER

Women in Real Estate WX Scholars Program

Students applying to the Scholars Program must be in their final year of studies, having a graduation date that falls between May 2020 to February 2021. Please note that the Scholars Program is limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Award Criteria: academic merit; demonstrated interest in real estate through courses, clubs, internships and experience; and a high likelihood of working in the New York metropolitan area upon graduation.

AIA Taliesin Colloquium Student Scholarship

Students should submit:

- a statement of interest in historic preservation and thoughts on how you will leverage this scholarship opportunity at your educational institution or in your community.

The scholarship will provide a stipend of up to $550.00 to cover travel and lodging expenses

AIA ARCHITECTS FOUNDATION Diversity Advancement Scholarship

$20,000 Scholarship

looking for minority students whose imagination and design thinking will influence the future of the built environment and the architecture profession. Eligible students must be a US citizen, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be:

- a high school student planning to enroll in a NAAB-accredited architecture degree program; a rising second-year college student in a NAAB-accredited architecture degree program; or, 

- a technical school or community college student who has completed high school or its equivalent and intends to transfer to a NAAB-accredited architecture program. 

NAAB-accredited degree programs may be a five-year pre-professional bachelor degree followed by a Master of Architecture degree. Scholarships may be renewed for up to 5 years (up to a $20, 000 total award-mulitple scholarships are available).

Applicants must submit:

A comprehensive essay that tells us your story and how your journey relates to your interest in architecture (1,200 words)

A professional resume

Two letters of recommendation

A portfolio (3-5 creative works, do not have to be architecture-specific)

Recipients will be notified in May 2020.

ROBERT P. MADISON SCHOLARSHIP IN ARCHITECTURE  Cleveland Foundation

Applicants may attend any accredited college or university in United States with a degree- granting program in architecture.

Eligibility:

- Be African American with parents born in the United States

- Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 grade scale 

- Be a high school graduate accepted or enrolled as an undergraduate, degree-seeking candidate in an accredited, pell-eligible post-secondary educational institution that is an accredited school of architecture, or enrolled in course work leading to a professional degree in architecture, with a declared major in architecture

- Demonstrate financial need

ARCHITECTS FOUNDATION Payette Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship

A U.S. woman citizen with a GPA 3.0+ entering their third or fourth year of undergraduate or graduate work in architecture at an NAAB-accredited university. $10,000. Previous Payette Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship recipients are eligible to reapply in subsequent years. 

Application process

Applications for the 2020-2021 Payette Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship are now closed. The recipient will be notified in May 2020.

KFP FOUNDATION KPF Traveling Fellowship

Each year, Kohn Pedersen Fox presents three $10,000 awards to students who are in their penultimate year at one of the twenty-seven design schools with whom KPF has chosen to partner.

The goal of the award is to allow students to broaden their education through a summer of travel and exploration before their final year at school.

THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY (NYPL) 

Gardiner Writing Fellowship

The Gotham Center / Uris Foundation is pleased to offer short-term fellowships to support graduate students from the City University of New York (CUNY) in furthering the study of New York City history through New York Public Library (NYPL) collection materials. Fellowship stipends are $1,000 per week for a minimum of two and maximum of four weeks. Individuals needing to conduct on-site research in the Library’s special collections are welcome to apply. Preference is given to applications making a strong case for accessing special collections materials.

Note: This award is only for CUNY graduate students.

NOMA NOMA Foundation Fellowship 

Five Cities / 25 Fellowships

To help increase the number of minority architects throughout the U.S., NOMA created a program to assist minority students with licensure. The NOMA Foundation Fellowship (NFF) aims to place NOMAS member students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate architecture program in a 12-week paid architectural summer internship.

Eligible students must graduate within two years of completing the Fellowship, inclusive of students scheduled to graduate Spring 2020 (graduation years 2020-2022).

Fellows are paid, full-time community development professionals, community organizers, or planners.

The NYC Department of Small Business Services aims to build a network of leaders prepared with commercial revitalization expertise and experience in New York City neighborhoods.

Ten fellows will be placed to work on a specific project in one community-based organization placement site.

Qualifications:

- New York City residency (within 90 days of the start date)

- 1 or more year(s) of community outreach, organizing, and/or planning experience

UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG International Summer Programme in Architecture: Cities in Asia

*Students are to arrive the evening before the programme starts in each city

The International Summer Programme in Architecture: Cities in Asia (Studio Jakarta-Taipei) is a three-week credit-bearing course organized by the HKU Department of Architecture. Founded in 2010, it is an annual design and research studio that travels to multiple cities in Asia. Taught by a diverse group of faculty members from HKU and speakers from internationally renowned universities and independent research groups, the course offers participants an unrivaled learning experience within Asia’s most dynamic contexts.

Stipend:

AIA HERE & NOW: A House for the 21st Century

This competition challenges students to envision a house for the HERE & NOW: informed by context, culture, and vernacular, but fully embracing 21st century technology and ideas of domesticity.

First, second & third prizes will be awarded, in addition to a selected number of honorable mentions, all at the discretion of the jury. A total of $6,000 will be distributed in the following manner to the winners:

Van Alen Institute Reimagining the Brooklyn Bridge

In response to these conditions, the New York City Council and Van Alen Institute have launched Reimagining Brooklyn Bridge, an international design competition that aims to spark a new public conversation about New York City’s infrastructure.

All finalists will have two months to refine their design based on feedback from the competition’s jury. In recognition of their work, finalists in the “Professionals” category will receive $13,000 and finalists in the “Young Adults” category will receive $3,000.

AZURE AZ Awards 

Entries are juried by a panel of architects and designers at the forefront of their professions. Finalists and winners are published in the AZ Awards Annual issue and are celebrated at the AZ Awards Gala in June 2020. The student winner also receives a $5000 cash prize.

Students pay just $35/submission until the early-bird deadline of January 31, and $45/submission until the final deadline of February 18 (compared to the regular entry fees of $150 and $175, respectively)

AMERICAN ACADEMY IN ROME Rome Prize

Applicants for all Rome Prize Fellowships, except those applying for the National Endowment for the Humanities postdoctoral fellowship, must be United States citizens at the time of the application.

US citizens, and those foreign nationals who have lived in the United States for three years immediately preceeding the application deadline, may apply for the NEH postdoctoral fellowships in ancient studies, medieval studies, Renaissance and early modern studies, or modern Italian studies.

Graduate students in the humanities may apply for predoctoral fellowships only if they are ABD.

Previous winners of the Rome Prize are not eligible to reapply.

Undergraduate students are not eligible for Rome Prize fellowships.

IPA: INSTITUTE FOR PUBLIC ARCHITECTURE Research and Programming Intern

Research Intern The​ ​Fall intern would be responsible for research that would help support the Fellowship teams. The intern would be embedded in the 5-6 selected teams and would be a research and technical  resource to each team.  Specific research and documentation could include 1) mapping of neighborhood conditions  2) mapping of allowable development 3) housing/parks/schools, etc. needs of the community 4) public space opportunities in the neighborhood. 
 
 
Programming Intern The Fall intern would be responsible for coordinating all Fall programming events around the Residency program (inviting guest lecturers, venue coordination) and assisting with all social media focused around the Residency and its programs. 

Internship Schedule / Compensation The IPA internship is on a part time basis, approximately 10 hours per week, over a 10-12 week period, depending on the IPA and interns’ Fall schedules. 
 
These are currently unfunded positions and therefore are volunteer or course credit opportunities. The IPA is happy to work with interns’ academic institutions to facilitate course credit.

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE Student Conservation Association (SCA) internship A suitable candidate would have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Landscape Architecture, Historic Architecture, Historic Preservation, or a similar career field, with a particular interest in the documentation and preservation of cultural landscapes and historic structures. SCA compensation includes a living, housing, and transportation stipend. While the start date is somewhat flexible, it is desired that the candidate anticipate beginning during the month of February 2020, once required and approved SCA and federal security clearances are received. HISPANIC ACCESS FOUNDATION  Hispanic Access Foundation’s MANO Project

Offering enriching internship experiences nationwide for Latinx college students and upcoming professionals who are passionate about public land conservation and natural resources.

Positions range from Archeological Intern, Habitat Restoration Fellow, Communications Fellow, and many others.

The duration of the internships vary from 11 - 12 weeks in the summer up to 6 months - 1 year.
